In What Major American City Are More and More People Living Out of Their Cars?
Answer: Los Angeles
As more and more Americans are foreclosing on their homes with nowhere to turn to many of these people are relegated to their vehicles. Most are blue collar and won’t seek help at shelters even if they’re available. Vans and buses are beginning to line the streets of industrial and beach districts across Los Angeles leaving behind the stench of human waste.
In LA the amount of recently homeless residents is, “trending toward an increase,” said Michael Stoop, acting executive director of the National Coalition for the Homeless. “People would rather live in a vehicle than wind up in a shelter, and you can’t stay on a friend’s couch forever.” Land of the free, home of the poor.
