James Dobson: Obama’s take on Religion = “Fruitcake Interpretation”
Obama takes his first steps reaching out to the Evangelical right. James Dobson, one of the leaders of the evangelical movement serves right back, calling Obama’s take on the bible “fruitcake interpretation.” Let the bible battles begin. We’ve already had a few shots across Obama’s bow with Reverend Wright and the Muslim question; now Obama’s reaching out to conservative religious voters which should only serve to further muddy the waters.

Barack’s courting of the religious right will be very interesting to watch. At this point the “Sunday Going Crowd” is basically up for grabs with a lot of traditional Republicans feeling betrayed by Bush and suspicious of McCain there’s room to grab votes. However Obama has more to overcome (see above) then most candidates but with the natural tools to accomplish the task. This election season is going to pay the bills for countless bloggers, pundits, consultants, etc. in fact CNN should sell a PPV type “political ticket” news service, similar to the NFL’s Sunday Ticket, starting after the two parties conventions.
In the end Obama’s biggest obstacle will be one he stood by and embraced for 20 years.
