Scumbag of the Week/Decade: Anders Behring Breivik

Not much of a competition here although Amy Winehouse made a run of it by her timing alone. However, to no one’s surprise, Anders Breivik wins hands down.  By now many of you, if not all, are aware of the terrible atrocities committed last Friday in Oslo, Norway, and on the remote Utoya Island by a crazed, radical, right-wing, 32 year old Norwegian, Anders Behring Breivik.  Now normally I wouldn’t give Anders any more attention then he’s already created for himself but such awful atrocities should be discussed in the hopes that we as a society do not repeat this carnage and we judge these events and react to them with calculated and measured resolve.  After spending about a day reading through article after article I can come to one conclusion: Anders Breivik is a cold, calculating, heartless killer who is undoubtedly mentally disturbed and will most likely use that in his defense.

Here is the Scumbag sporting the popped collar look.  Out of respect for the victims and their families can we finally stop this terrible fashion trend preferred by douche bags the world over?

Anders, now in the running for Scumbag of the Decade, coldly mowed down 82 (or 85, there are conflicting reports) of his own countryman one by one on the isolated Utoya Island. To explain his actions he left behind a 1,500 page (link at the top of the page) Mein Kampfesque manifesto to explain his unthinkable actions. His reasoning? The governments of Western Europe have let Islam spread, Prime Minister Tony Blair was as a worse appeaser than Chamerberlain and Gordon Brown he accuses of “colluding with” Islamic terror groups by making “London the global centre of Islamic banking.”  The Prince of Wales, meanwhile, “is criticized for his patronage of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, built with money from the Saudi royal family.”  He goes onto say that Hitler was a traitor for being too soft on Islam and that the “Nato force which bombed Serbia in 1999 was “unacceptable” because the “Serbian brothers” wanted “drive Islam out.” His beliefs were reaffirmed by Norway’s handling of the Mohammed cartoon controversy and the “thousands of Muslims pouring in annually” to Norway. Throughout the manifesto, “he justifies his actions from a Christian point of view, which he sees as pure and correct.” So to follow his reasoning in order to affect change and bring to light the above listed alleged grievances he decides to kill in cold blood innocent men, women and children? Seriously? Not exactly the love your neighbor message Jesus once conveyed. Fuck this guy!

Western Governments including the United States have posted travel warnings to Europe as there are  expectations of other possible terrorist attacks from people like Anders (who he refers to in his manifesto) or, for some weird reason, radical Muslims. Actually this makes sense to me.  Muslim terrorists are stupid enough to find reason with what Anders did and commit an attack in response.

At around about the same time Anders was channeling Timothy McVeigh a bomb exploded in downtown Oslo, killing 7 and wounding dozens of others.  It has yet to be determined if Anders (not be confused with Anders from Workaholics) was working alone or in collusion with others.

Unfortunately, the local police and anti-terror swat unit arrived on the scene in fashionably late time showing up somewhere from one hour to 90 minutes after the original emergency call was made.   They are now being seriously and justly criticized for their slow response.  In their defense the police claim that it took an hour, some say 90 minutes, to apprehend Anders Breivik because of, “transport problems, including a lack of helicopters and a boat that sank.”

“Police conceded that their response was delayed by the decision to send a specialist anti terrorist unit by road from Oslo, 28 miles away, because no helicopters were available in the capital.”

However, stories of heroism are now beginning to trickle out.  One in particular, is the story of Marcel Gleffe, a 32 year old roofer from Germany, who was vacationing with his family at the time of Anders attack.

Marcel describes, in vivid detail, the sites and sounds of the attack that put his heroic actions in motion.  “There were people swimming everywhere in the water,” Marcel says. “I threw them lifejackets and pulled those into the boat who were having the most trouble. Everyone was screaming, but they were also helping each other.” They screamed, they cried, but they also hugged each other for courage. “It was unbelievable to see how strong they were,” Marcel says.”

“The 32-year-old took his boat out into the water again and again, collecting more people and bringing them back to the jetty. There, additional helpers were waiting, and several other campers with their boats were also pulling teenagers out of the water. Marcel guesses that he alone was able to bring 20 of them to the shore, he doesn’t know exactly how many anymore.”

More good news has also begun to come out.  For instance the story of innocent bystanders that were caught up in his hate filled rampage and cleverly played dead avoiding a certain death. “Through the door I saw a boy was shot and killed… He started shooting at us, and shot and shot until no one moved. I was shot in the thigh, but acted like I was dead. I heard that he did over and changed ammunition, and that’s the worst moment in my life.” To make matters worse Anders used special “dum-dum” bullets that explode inside the victims causing significantly more damage than a normal bullet which typically go through the victim.  Hence Anders caused more deaths than otherwise would have been the case.

Unfortunately, this heartbreaking event will undoubtedly give license to soulless Hollywood writers, directors, producers, etc to write & produce more Die Hard type movies that feature Northern Europeans as heartless global terrorists.  As if this event wasn’t bad enough already we’ll now have to suffer through terrible character acting from the likes of Simon.

Not happy with just killing almost a hundred innocent victims Anders manifesto, “contains a tally of the number of people Breivik believes should be murdered in his crusade. His personal preference would be for 45,000 people to be killed and another million wounded, which he says reflects the number of people killed and raped by Muslims since 1999, which he calls the beginning of the “European civil war”.”  It begs the question how could someone like this be off of the local police’s radar. My sense is that we will eventually find out there were plenty of opportunities to uncover Anders’s evil plot.

One of the positive outcomes of this awful attack could be a revision of Norway’s outdated criminal laws.  Currently, “if Breivik is found guilty, he would only face a maximum of 21 years in prison – which would amount to a penalty of 82 days per killing.” This means he could be out on parole as early as 2021.  Justice?  This is fucking Madness!

Add this sad/tragic event onto the shit stack that is our modern world’s recent events.  Imagine growing up as a 13-19 year old kid today.  You’ve witnessed the madness of our world unfolding before you, front row seats to the nihilistic tendencies of man.  They’ve witnessed, in no particular order: 9/11, Katrina, Earthquakes and tsunamis in Japan, Haiti, India, the BP Gulf Oil Spill, Revolutions in the Middle East, the escalating body count south of our border, Pirates now boldly roam the world’s oceans, terrible human rights violations in China, epic flooding in the mid-west, blah, blah, blah.  I can only imagine the pessimism this generation will have if the, somewhat obvious, impending apocalypse does, in fact, transpire or worse yet they end up in the cubicle next to me.

Finally one last observation.  The media has played into Anders’s hands.  According to his Twitter account and manifesto this was all well planned and it fits the profile of everything we know about the cold and calculating killer.  The media has gone wild speculating on who might carry out the next steps in his plan.  Remember he set this all up.  He took the pictures (handsome pictures of himself in a good light – where’s the mug shot?), he wrote the manifesto, he murdered people in a way that opposes (or defines) the very nature of being human.  Anders is a modern terrorist in just about every sense of the word and he needs to be treated in a modern manner.  He should not be made a martyr, no one should ever give him a Robert Paulson moment.  He should rot in jail, thrown down to the general population and sodomized every day of the week and twice on Sunday.  Added benefit he watches as his revolution never happens.  He should be seen for what he is a mad man nothing more.  He is not a revolutionary he is an idiot, a fool, a loner, a loser, a fucking mad mad man.
