San Francisco’s “Sanctuary” Law being investigated by Feds

Finally the Federal Government has woken up to the fact that San Francisco’s Sanctuary policy is criminal. I’ve written about the problems with this sanctuary policy following the murder of a father and his two sons by an illegal immigrant, MS-13 gangster who had been arrested multiple times, once with the actual murder weapon only to be let go and not turned over to the federal authorities.

A federal grand jury is investigating whether San Francisco’s policy of offering sanctuary to undocumented immigrants violates U.S. laws against harboring people who are in the country illegally, city officials say. City Attorney Dennis Herrera said his office has hired a criminal defense lawyer to represent employees who might be questioned or asked for documents. He and Mayor Gavin Newsom said they would cooperate with the investigation.

San Francisco, like about 80 other U.S. cities and five states, has a law prohibiting the use of its funds to help enforce federal immigration law or to question individuals about their immigration status. The San Francisco ordinance, originally prompted by arrivals of refugees from Central American wars of the 1980s, specifies that police can report jailed felons to federal immigration authorities.

Newsom’s right, these guys seem nice.

The policy of not referring juvenile offenders to federal immigration authorities had been in place for at least a decade. Newsom announced in July, after the first Chronicle articles appeared, that he had halted the flights in May and told city officials to start turning over youthful felons as well as adults to immigration officers for deportation.

Extramarital Affairs, Bathrooms and Texting in Politics Today

It seems, these days, we can’t go an election cycle without some sort of sex scandal involving a public official gracing our newspaper headlines. Whether it’s John Edwards cheating on his wife or Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick sending illicit text messages to his “lover,” sex and politics seem to go hand in hand since Thomas Jefferson had an “extended family.”  Sorry we’re not going to cover FDR, JFK only the new new affairs.

Here’s a list of some of the more noteworthy extramarital transgressions involving our public officials in recent history.

Rep. Mel Reynolds, an Illinois Democrat, was involved in a sex scandal with a teenage girl. Yeah that’s what you want out of your elected Representative.

Republican Sen. Bob Packwood of Oregon couldn’t keep his hands off women.  Bad sure, but you’ll read much worse, if you don’t know it already.

Senator David Vitter Louisiana Republican has always denied his connections and use of New Orleans prostitutes.  However the good Senator did come clean about his number showing up on a DC madam’s phone list as well as a few other “issues” he has cleared up with his wife and our lord and savior.

We all remember Senator Larry Craig who inadvertently has made airport men’s bathrooms an uncomfortable place to be. Senator Craig has taken the Clinton approach of denial.  But don’t worry he’s not gay.

New York Governor Eliot Spitzer resigned after news becomes public that he paid for the services of a high end call girl.  Ironic since Spitzer came into office, “as a fierce enforcer of ethics in public life.”

“The Whore”

New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey took a different approach to sex scandals when he came out of the closet as a gay man and resigned as Governor of New Jersey. Unexpected for a Republican.

The Governor, the former (maybe current) lover, and his poor wife.

Detroit Mayor Democrat Kwame Kilpatrick who is undergoing a fight for his political career. As hard as he tries he can’t seem to stay out of jail for parole violations.  However parole violations aren’t a major concern for the married Mayor who was busted by text.  Text messages the Mayor sent in 2002 and 2003 indicated he had a sexual affair with his chief of staff (who is pictured below).

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom committed a cardinal sin by having an affair with his campaign managers wife.  Having worked a brief stint in local and national politics I can tell you what a total, colossal violation of trust this is. Especially given the nature of this relationship. Newsom trusted his political future to his campaign manager the least he could do is not f*&k his wife.

The one time aid and wife to the campaign manager.

Republican Presidential candidate and Arizona Senator John McCain had a little known affair with his current wife when he was married to his ex-wife.  This past affair hasn’t made much headlines for McCain and really goes to show that sex and politics don’t have to mean the end to a political career.  It just means you’re just not a good person. That’s all.  She’s the winner!

John Edwards recent marital infidelities have left his personal life splattered like a bug across the windshield of American politics. Of course we delight to learn that Senator Edwards has faults, is human, isn’t a cyborg, unlike his old running mate - Senator John Kerry (who is now rumored to be a potential VP choice for Obama).  However John’s affair really takes the cake.  Not only did he cheat on his wife which is an unconscionable offense in and of itself but the icing on the cake was the fact that his wife was in remission from cancer at this time of the affair.  Well done Senator you’re the biggest son of a bitch I know.

The Senator and the “other” woman

My point here is that these are our leaders.  The people we elect to represent our interests.  Now no one is perfect but come on get it together.  What pisses me off the most is that these representatives spend most of their time screwing us, the taxpayer, with higher taxes, less services and in many cases can’t even pass a budget on time leaving many families out in the wind and costing us millions more in interest payments because they can’t do their jobs.  Given all these significant deficiencies how do they possibly have the time to f*&k all these people and us at the same time?

Arrogance and Stupidity Run Amok in San Francisco City Hall

San Francisco is slowly waking up to the fact that the current administration does not have the average tax-payer’s best interest in mind. I know, big surprise right?

San Francisco will have to pay back the federal government for a program that, “reimburses authorities in border states who handle cases referred by the federal governement. Authorities have so far provided justification for only 127 of more than 2,300 border prosecution cases the city has billed to a federal government grant program.”  This is ridiculous.  LESS THAN 1%!  What a joke.  ”District Attorney Kamala Harris and the sheriff — admitted they could not provide justification for any of the money. Harris opened an investigation into the matter and has called for a review panel to monitor procedures for how city departments receive grants.”  I am sure a rigorous investigation will ensue.

This is a perfect illustration of what is wrong with San Francisco’s current administration.  Add that to the fact that, “our Mayor and DA consistently overlook violations of the law by illegal immigratns and let murders, like Edwin Ramos, go under the city sanctuary policy.

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

Now we’re finding out that Ramos isn’t the only criminal to be let loose under this sanctuary policy. “Marco Martinez - a 26-year-old illegal immigrant from El Salvador who has been arrested by police five times in the past year and a half for allegedly selling crack cocaine but has never wound up in the feds’ hands.“  What’s the point in even arresting him if they aren’t going to prosecute or deport? Kamala Harris is a joke.  How do we as local citizens tolerate this? Our DA would rather let gangsters like this back out on the streets then turn them over to the federal government.

San Francisco DA Kamala Harris with a close buddy.

Not only has the Newsom administration refused to turn over these illegal immigrants who break the law selling drugs or killing people to the Federal authorities Newsom has actually, unbelievably funded them.  “Mayor Gavin Newsom’s office gave grants totaling more than $650,000 to nonprofit agencies to provide the underage offenders with free services - everything from immigration attorneys to housing assistance to “arts and cultural affirmation activities,” Newsom has said the city began its policy of not referring young immigrant offenders to federal authorities for deportation under previous mayors, and that he reversed the practice after he became aware of it this year. However, in 2006, the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice - a community outreach arm of Newsom’s office - created a grant program specifically designed to assist, rather than deport, “undocumented, unaccompanied and monolingual” immigrants who were in the custody of the city’s Juvenile Probation Department or on juvenile probation, according to city documents. The city provided $467,000 to three nonprofit agencies under the grant program from mid-2006 and mid-2008, records show, and another $200,000 was approved for two of the agencies for this budget year.

So in other words Newsom is either lying about not knowing or is an incompetent Mayor.  We should be outraged.

At some point in time we have to stand up for our cities, for our families for ourselves and for common sense.  It’s not like we’re asking the mayor and DA to gas these criminals.  All we’re really asking them to do is their jobs.  Bear in mind San Francisco has to pay back the Federal Government a few million for their indiscretions who do you think in the end will be stuck with the bill?
