The Death of Capitalism
“Congressional leaders and the Bush administration reached a tentative deal early Sunday on a landmark bailout of imperiled financial markets whose collapse could plunge the nation into a deep recession. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the $700 billion accord just after midnight.” The one lone bright spot in this deal, from my perspective, is that, “the proposed legislation also calls for the financial sector to help make up the difference if the government does not recoup its investment in five years, the official said, but details were unclear.”
This is like a bad dream. Bailing out bad business practices and corrupt institutions to avoid a recession. At this point we deserve one, a true natural market correction is in order because eventually we’re going to pay either way. I wonder what Adam Smith and his weird, spooky invisible hand would think of all this? Here’s to the future.

Congressional Approval Ratings In Single Digits!
When are our representatives in Washington going to learn? It seems to me that they are so out of touch with the problems of the common American that they don’t know or are not willing to provide us with the changes we so desperately want and need.

How else would you explain a paltry 9% approval rating? 9%! This 9% approval rating stretches across party lines.
“Just 12% of voters think Congress has passed any legislation to improve life in this country over the past six months. That number has ranged from 11% to 13% throughout 2008. The majority of voters (62%) say Congress has not passed any legislation to improve life in America.” Additionally, “Most voters (72%) think most members of Congress are more interested in furthering their own political careers. Just 14% believe members are genuinely interested in helping people.
Here’s a prime example of what I am talking about coming from one of the leaders of Congress, Harriet Reid.
“Coal makes us sick, oil makes us sick. it’s global warming. It’s ruining our country. It’s ruining our world.” Greg Pierce from the Washington Times, Inside Politics section put it best when describing Harry Reid’s, “latest hilarious monologue came a few days ago on the Fox Business channel when, in trying to defend the exorbitant costs (and federal subsidies) of renewable power, he asserted that money is overrated in debating the country’s energy policy…Yes, the resources that not only drive the world’s economy and rising standard of living, but make life and prosperity possible in his political base of Las Vegas, are ‘ruining our country’ and ‘ruining our world.’”
Exactly my point. Rising cost of gasoline, the falling dollar, the slow upward clime of unemployment, the rising cost of commodities, etc, none of these effect the personal pocket books and lives of our representatives. They simply don’t get the message that common Americans are suffering and Congress does nothing.
Maybe the Boondock Saints have it right. “We must all fear evil men (errr Congress), but there is another kind of evil which we must fear most and that is the indifference of good men.” When are we going to wake up?

Typical liberal Washington Post article. Here’s the skinny: when soliticing peoples homes and cold calling them some volunteers for Obama have encountered racist remarks, vandalism and “slammed doors.” Two points here: The story, far and away, highlights the negative and racially charged aspects of what volunteers have experienced; an obvious ploy by the Post to frame the article as though Obama has to transcend significant hatred and racism from ignorant country folk in order to win this election - and in framing the reality of Obama’s campaign in this light the election becomes more about us as a society moving forward and shaking off the shackles of our racist past (assuming we support Obama) then it is about Obama - exactly what you would want if you’re Barack and have a voting record that most Americans disagree with. Second as someone who has worked in and run a campaign call center, walked precincts, talked with ”registered” voters I can tell you this is typical behavior. People slamming doors in my face and telling me they hated my candidate was a normal, daily occurence. Having campaign centers vandalized is normal. There’s always going to be racist, idiotic, non-sensical people in any society. That’s not necessarily a huge issue. What’s changed, why are these people so shocked or taken back by slammed doors and racist remarks? It’s been well documented that Obama has inspired new people to get involved in the political process so we have a lot of first time volunteers out there knocking on doors and calling voters and these virgin volunteers are surprised by what they see and hear as they are ignorant to this experience. Nothing more. There’s rascism in every country and there always will be to a degree here in America as we are a integrated society. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong just saying these people are fools to be surprised by this and don’t be duped by what the Post is trying to do here. As this election heats up you’ll see much more of this type of “journalism.” If Obama’s people play this right Hillarys win for Obama will do more for Barack’s campaign then for Hillarys. What campaign really wants to be associated with W. Virginia?
Not necessarily a comment a Governor should be making publicy but that doesn’t mean it’s not funny.
